The ‘Nautical Group’ exhibit at the London Careers Festival
On the 28th and 29th of June, the Shipwrights Company exhibited at the London Careers Festival hosted at the prestigious London Guildhall. We were joined at our collective stands by the Company of Watermen and Lightermen, Trinity House, Marine Society and Sea Cadets, London Nautical School, Casey Bruty-Holloran the apprentice we are currently sponsoring at Woods River Cruises (on the Thames) and also marine technology company Wartsila.
A very valuable two days and our stands were very busy and proved an exceedingly popular draw for all the pupils on both the secondary school day (28th) and primary day (29th). We had a full bridge ship simulator (developed by Wartsila) for the pupils to interact with, and the students benefited from personal instruction by Jamie Bullar of the London Nautical School. Tony Mason, Head of Training at the Watermen’s Company along with their 2021 Doggetts winner Max Carter-Miller delivered masterclasses on throwing a line over a cleat. Max also shared his experiences of working on the river Thames. Trinity House were on hand to give information and advice on the Merchant Navy Scholarship Scheme for cadetships and apprenticeships.
