Billmeir Award Scheme Application Form (Aug 2024)
Grant application for the Billmeir Award Scheme - Revised Aug 2024. The Billmeir Award Scheme distributes charitable funds from the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights to individuals to support their training at one of the schools or colleges teaching modern and traditional timber ship and boat building, naval architecture and marine engineering. The Billmeir Award Scheme's objectives are to promote the skills of ship and boat building and related trades and, wherever possible, encourage people to develop careers in these areas. The scheme aims to help applicants with small grants towards the cost of tools, equipment and living costs. The Shipwrights' Company has limited resources and there is an ever increasing number of requests for support so competition is tough. However, where the committee feels that an applicant has demonstrated sufficient need and a strong commitment to their chosen trade / course they will consider awarding a larger grant towards course fees. The Awards Committee meets three times a year in February, June and October to consider applications. Applicants for grants under the Scheme are encouraged to demonstrate to the Committee that the money awarded will generate real value to both the recipient and to boatbuilding / shipbuilding in the longer term. Please provide as much information as possible and also explain why a grant to you would fit the Shipwrights' objectives. Your application will not be considered without the inclusion of two supporting references. Completed applications will be placed before the Awards Committee at the first available opportunity. Please note that fields marked "*" must be completed ("NA" may be used where appropriate and if allowed).
