Visit to the Boat Building Academy, Lyme Regis

Yesterday a small group of Shipwrights joined a team from the Dorset Lieutenancy on a fascinating visit to The Boat Building Academy and Furniture School in Lyme Regis. The Renter Warden, Admiral Sir George Zambellas, Liveryman Danny Boswell and the Clerk enjoyed the opportunity to meet two successful applicants for Billmeir Awards, Indie Wix and Hannah Lovett, who are both enjoying the full 40-week course. Indie is only two months from completing the senior course whilst Hannah is five weeks into the junior one and both are clearly loving it! It was also good to learn that the tutor of the senior course, Mike Broome, was himself a Billmeir Award recipient, albeit from another era!

Thanks to Commander Tim Gedge RN, BBA’s founder, Will Reed the Principal, Geoff Bowker, Simon Williams, BBA’s fundraiser in chief, Janine Cashin and all of the tutors, staff and students who gave us so much of their valuable time and knowledge. We came away with a very clear picture of life at the Boat Building Academy, its challenges and its numerous triumphs! Thank you – the Shipwrights look forward to your continued success.  https://boatbuildingacademy.com/
