Time Team and the Sutton Hoo Ship’s Company
In 2017 the Education and Charity Committee had a fascinating visit to the Sutton Hoo Ship’s Company in Woodbridge which led to some sponsorship of their aim “to create an interpretation of the Anglo-Saxon Mound 1 ship that provides the best possible means of testing and understanding how the ship could have been used under a range of different conditions.” Since then the project has has made significant progress and attracted the interest of ‘Time Team’, the archaeological TV series which has just relaunched. The Ship’s Company has begun working closely with the producers and the results thus far can be seen in the Time Team film ‘The Sutton Hoo Ship – Rebuilding a Legend’. This epic full length movie captures the build from the early stages of laying the keel to when the hull is a third planked.
